Zambia will on Tuesday (tomorrow) host Malawian president, Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. The visit has been confirmed by Zambian president, Edgar Lungu.
Announcing the visit of his fellow African comrade who was elected the president less than five months ago, president Lungu had this to say—verbatim.
Fellow Citizens,
I will have the pleasure of hosting my counterpart, the President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on his official visit to Zambia tomorrow, Tuesday, 22nd September 2020.
This visit will be the Malawian leader’s first official engagement outside his country, since his election as Head of State in June 2020.
The purpose of the visit is to discuss areas of mutual interest in the enhancement of bilateral relations between the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Malawi. Zambia and Malawi share strong historical bilateral ties and a common border.
Our two countries continue to actively cooperate in social, political, and economic areas, within the framework of the Zambia/Malawi Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security and the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation, for the betterment of our peoples.
Zambia and Malawi have also continued to collaborate at regional, continental and international levels through the United Nations (UN), the Commonwealth, the African Union (AU), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
We will hold bilateral talks at State House and also lay wreaths at the Presidential Burial Site at Embassy Park in Lusaka, Zambia. His Excellency, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, is scheduled to depart for Malawi immediately after his engagements.
